The sellers view...
When we first viewed the house over 21 years ago, it was the space that sold it to us straight away. Like most people who come through the front door, we couldn't quite believe how much room there was inside. It's one of those houses that constantly surprises people and over the years more than one visitor has described it as a bit of a Tardis. What we have loved most is how adaptable the house has been as family life has changed. We brought up three children here and somehow the house always managed to grow with us. Rooms have been everything from playrooms and gaming rooms to studies, music rooms and hobby spaces. The huge top-floor room has hosted countless sleepovers, with all three children able to invite friends over and still have space to spare.
One of the best decisions we made was opening up the kitchen to create a kitchen-diner. It became the heart of the house, where homework could be done while dinner was cooking and where everyone naturally gathered at the end of the day. Even the hallway has played different roles over the years, including housing our piano for a time, which gives you an idea of the generous proportions throughout.
The location has been just as important to us as the house itself. Tithe Barn Drive has a lovely community feel, with lots of families, friendly neighbours and a genuine sense that people look out for one another. There is an active community Facebook group and regular gatherings at the Boat Park, which residents have access to and are always welcome to attend. Being next to Bray Lake has been a real bonus. Whether you enjoy a peaceful walk around the water, open-water swimming, paddleboarding or windsurfing, it's a wonderful place to have on your doorstep. We have also loved being just a short walk from the Thames Path. Within around ten minutes you can be strolling along the river, passing Bray Marina and The Taverna at Bray. From there, there are beautiful riverside walks in every direction, including routes towards Dorney Lake, Windsor and Cookham.
For families, the area is particularly hard to beat. Our own children attended local schools including Oldfield Primary, Holyport College and Cox Green School, and there is always a steady stream of children out playing and making friends nearby.
The location between Bray and Holyport, and between Windsor and Maidenhead, has always felt like the best of both worlds. You have beautiful countryside and village life on your doorstep, while still being close to excellent rail links into London via the Elizabeth Line and mainline services. Add to that Bray's famous restaurants, great local pubs and easy access to Heathrow, Gatwick and Luton airports, and it's easy to see why we've stayed for so long.
Now, after more than two decades, our children have grown up and are starting exciting new chapters of their own. Two have completed university and all three are building lives of their own, which means we no longer need quite the amount of space that made this house such a perfect family home for us all those years ago. While it is hard to say goodbye to a place that has been such a big part of our lives, it feels like the right time for another family to enjoy everything this home, community and location have to offer and create memories of their own here.
